New temperature humidity transmitter puts the competition in the shade
12 July 2011

Status Instruments have further established their leading position in industrial instrumentation design with the introduction of their ‘smart’ SEM 160 series digital humidity and temperature transmitter. This unique product, which has a number of highly innovative features, offers exceptional accuracy and stability, making it ideal for applications in heating and ventilation, energy management, facilities management, storage, food processing and machine building.

Depending on whether the single (SEM161) or dual channel (SEM162) version is chosen, the two wire, loop powered, transmitter can be used to measure temperature, humidity, dew point and delta ‘T’ (the difference between ambient temperature and dew point). An optional head mounted four digit display allows the permanent or toggled display of temperature, humidity or dew point process parameters.

The transmitter, which has a temperature range of -30° to +100°C, can be ordered for wall or duct mounting, whilst further flexibility is provided by the remote sensor version where the sensor can be mounted up to five metres from the transmitter. The digital temperature sensor, housed in the Teflon/stainless steel cintered end, can easily be replaced if damage occurs without the need to recalibrate the unit. If required the SEM 160 can be used with a suitable trip amplifier to activate preset alarms.

Status engineers are continuing to pioneer a number of highly innovative design and build features, focussed on making their instrumentation more versatile, user-friendly, reliable and cost effective. This offers a number of logistical and operational advantages over competitive units, which typically require detailed pre-order configuration procedures.

By contrast, instead of users having to specify required parameters prior to purchase, units such as the SEM 160 can be set up on site using Status’ USB Calibrator Link Software. This provides a common configuration platform for all USB enhanced Status products, allowing rapid configuration in user-defined engineering units, simply by plugging the instrument into the USB port on a PC or laptop. In addition to operational parameters, units can be programmed with an individual tag number and date of set-up. The SEM 160 can also be calibrated via the PC using traceable temperature and humidity sources. Programming multiple units with the same parameters can be carried out extremely efficiently. This capability dramatically reduces stock holding requirements and allows rapid instrument replacement should the need arise.

The SEM160 is just part of Status Instruments’ extensive range of signal conditioners, transmitters, digital panel indicators, temperature sensors and digital thermometers.
